Our Mission Statement is the guiding format for everything that we do. It is based on our philosophy of support only for those actions and programs which enhance the quality of life for residents and which maintain the rural character of the Keys. It was last updated on October, 1999. Our MissionThe Big Pine Key Civic Association is an all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to educational programs and activities to improve the quality of life for the residents of our island community. Our emphasis is on those educational activities which will promote responsible, representative government and those which will encourage appropriate programs and/or legislation to achieve or promote... · Responsible citizen awareness of, and informed participation in governmental activities at all levels. · Non-sectarian, non-partisan information on political candidates and their platforms. · School programs to encourage good citizenship, civic responsibility, and respect for government. · Good government leading to safe, pleasant, peaceful neighborhoods with a high quality of life for residents including: · Cessation of growth and protection of the rural residential environment and natural resources, preservation of our island’s unique ecology, and protection of endangered species such as the Key deer. · Clean canals, near-, and offshore waters. Non-partisan, non-sectarian activities to advance these goals shall include scholarship and/or recognition activities at both the elementary and high school levels, regular forums featuring guest speakers, a periodic Newsletter, and Candidates Nights to let residents hear candidates and their programs. Emphasis shall be on the provision of sufficient factual information as shall allow members to make their own informed decisions on issues. In all cases, activities and funds of the Association shall never inure to the benefit of members, specific or in general. Date of last review & Board approval: October 1999
